In 2012 the Mid Atlantic Bicycle Racing Association partnered with National Capitol Velo Club, and purchased more than 30 kid-sized racing bikes to provide for young juniors entering the sport. With the entire fleet checked out for 2013, attendance in junior events is on the rise.

The Virginia High School MTB Series was established in 2011 in a move to make cycling more accessible and mainstream. Scored as a high school team sport, there are now over 100 kids racing from all over the state for individual an team series and championship honors. In 2013, middle school and elementary categories were introduced.

These programs thrive because of enthusiastic volunteers and donations. You can help these programs too.

Bike racing can be expensive. The cost of entree fees, travel, and parts add up quickly. To help cut some of those costs for first timers, your lightly used shoes, pedals, tires, tubes, chains, jerseys, bikes, sunglasses and more can all help benefit juniors discovering cycling.

It’s easy to donate. Send your items to:
